ASSISTANT AUDIT OFFICER (AAO) JOB PROFILE
Selection to the post of Assistant Audit Officer (AAO) is made through the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
This is a post (gazetted class-B) post. In the 6th CPC he was entitled for the Grade Pay of Rs 4,800. Now in the 7th CPC he is entitled for the Basic Pay Rs 47,600 and comes under the level 8 of the following Pay Matrix Table.

NATURE OF WORK OF ASSISTANT AUDIT OFFICER (AAO)
On this post you need to do audit of offices/organizations at a place in your state. You are not sent for audit in another state. This post comes under CAG and only this organisation allocate the states/zones to AAOs. The allocation is made to different states’ AG offices as per the position of merit and state preferences of an individual. Once a candidate has been allotted a state, he is not transferred to another state throughout his tenure.
PROMOTIONS FOE ASSISTANT AUDIT OFFICER (AAO)
1. Audit Officer (AO) —- 10 years or so after AAO (in 5400 GP)
2. Sr Audit Officer (Sr AO) —- Generally 2-3 years after the post of AO (in 5400 GP)
NOTE: Grade Pay of AO and Sr AO is the same i.e. 5400; Sr AO gets just one increment extra on his promotion, no enhancement in GP.
3. DAG —- in IAAS (Indian Accounts and Audit Services)
NOTE: But not every Sr AO can become IAAS, only those who become Sr AO at an early age (below 55 is compulsory) and then a few officers are selected for promotion to IAAS cadre on all India basis
DEPARTMENTAL EXAM FOR AAO
The name of this exam is SAS. It’s a must to pass this exam to be confirmed on the post of AAO. You get 4 chances for that, if you fail to pass the exam in those 6 attempts you are demoted to the post of Auditor. In fact presently the number of attempts is 10 as the recent circular in this regard says that if one has exhausted all six chances and has passed Group-I subjects (total 5) of SAS exam then for remaining 4 subjects in Group-II, he will be given 4 extra chances. This exam has 9 papers in all, and is said to be very tough indeed.
The exam is objective type online with 1/4 negative marking and 45/100 is passing marks,
AGE LIMIT
In the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Exam of the Staff Selection Commission for this post the age limit is up to 30 years.
