1. SSC Key’s answer: option ‘D’
My answer: option ‘B’
Explanation: In part ‘B’ the verb is in the present perfect (HAVE RECEIVED) whereas it should be in the past simple (RECEIVED).
2. SSC Key’s answer option ‘C’
My answer: Wrongly framed question
Explanation: In answer options; 2 of them are correctly spelled words (options ‘A’ & ‘D’) and 2 of them are wrong (options ‘B’ & ‘C’).
3. SSC Key’s answer: option ‘A’
My answer: option ‘D’
Explanation: The given sentence has two clauses i.e. (i) If the room had been brighter (ii) Shweta would have been able to read for a while before bedtime. This is a conditional sentence type-3 in which the verb in the IF-CLAUSE is in the past perfect tense; the verb in the MAIN CLAUSE is in the perfect conditional. In the IF-clause the verb is HAD BEEN (past perfect) and in the main clause the verb is WOULD HAVE BEEN (perfect conditional). Therefore according to the rule stated above SSC key is not correct for this question.
4. SSC Key’s answer: option ‘C’
My answer: option ‘D’
Explanation: SINCE and EVER SINCE both are equally correct here. In a SENTENCE IMPROVEMENT sentence one is supposed to improve it when it’s not correct even though any other answer option also is correct. So SSC key is not right here.
