VIEW SOLUTION WITH EXPLANATION IN HINDI
1. You should be working.
Answer: A
Explanation: Option ‘A’ (You are supposed to be working.). Passive Voice में verb SUPPOSE के साथ यदि कोई infinitive (TO + V1) होती है तो इसका अर्थ होता है किसी व्यक्ति व्यक्ति द्वारा किसी कार्य की आशा रखना; और अतः ये verb SUPPOSE के सामन्य अर्थ कोई कल्पना करने से भिन्न होता है. ऐसे वाक्यों का Active Voice निम्न प्रकार से बनाया जता है:
a) It is your duty to know how to drive. OR You should know how to drive.
b) People suppose you know how to drive.
2. The traitors should be shot dead.
Answer: C
3. I was stuck in the traffic.
Answer: D
Explanation: Option ‘D’ (The traffic stuck me.). Option ‘A’ अशुद्ध है क्योंकि verb STICK की 3rd form STUCK होती है; STUCKED नहीं.
4. She let me go.
Answer: C
Explanation: Option ‘C’ (I was allowed to go by her.). Option ‘B’ अशुद्ध है क्योंकि verb LET को passive form में use नहीं किया जाता.
5. Quinine tastes bitter.
Answer: A
Explanation: Option ‘A’ (Quinine is bitter when it is tasted.).
a) The rose smells sweet.
=The rose is sweet when it is smelt.
b) The grapes tasted sour.
= The grapes were sour when they were tasted.
c) At least the play reads well.
= At least the play affects the readers well when it is read.
d) This book reads easily.
= This book can be read easily.
e) The house is building.
= The house is being built.
f) The meal is eating.
= The meal is being eaten.
g) The drums are beating.
= The drums are being beaten.
6. They are building a house next door to our school.
Answer: B
Explanation: Option ‘B’ (A house is being built by them next door to our school.). दिए गये वाक्य का object ‘A house’ है; ‘A house next door’ नहीं.
7. Will the lesson have been taught by the teacher?
Answer: A
Explanation: Option ‘A’ (Will the teacher have taught the lesson.). Option ‘B’ अशुद्ध है क्योंकि WILL और SHALL के साथ HAVE use होता है; HAS नहीं.
8. I was shocked by the letter.
Answer: C
9. The Prime Minister and his team hope to fight corruption with Jan Lokpal Bill.
Answer: A
Explanation: Option ‘A’ (It is hoped by the Prime Minister and his team that they would fight the corruption with Jan Lokpal Bill.). Active Voice में verbs HOPE, EXPECT, आदि के साथ जब किसी ‘infinitive + object’ अथवा THAT-CLAUSE का use दिया गया हो तो Passive Voice ऐसे बनता है:
CASE-I: जब साथ में ‘infinitive + object’ का use हो
It + Passive verb + By phrase + That + दिए गये subject की pronoun + Would + V1
अथवा
Infinitive का object + Passive verb + Infinitive की passive form + By phrase
CASE-II: जब साथ में THAT-CLAUSE का use हो
It + Passive verb + THAT-CLAUSE यूँ का यूँ
अथवा
THAT-CLAUSE का subject + MAIN-CLAUSE की passive verb + THAT-CLAUSE की verb की infinitive form + दिया गया object/adjective
उदाहरण
Pakistan expect to win the match.
= It is expected by Pakistan that they would win the match.
= The match is expected to be won by Pakistan.
अत दिए गये वाक्य का एक और अन्य संभव passive वाक्य: Corruption is hoped to be fought by the Prime Minister and his team with Jan Lokpal Bill.
