Direct Indirect Speech Practice Set 4 – Hindi Solution
1. The speaker said, “We have assembled to pay homage to our departed leader.”
Answer: C
Explanation: Option ‘C’ (The speaker said that they had assembled to pay homage to their departed leader.).
a) I said to my sister, “I brought you a doll yesterday.”
= I told my sister that I had brought her a doll the previous day.
= I told my sister I had brought her a doll the previous day.
b) He said, “The teacher usually does not ask any question.”
= He said that the teacher usually does not ask any question.
= He said the teacher usually does not ask any question.
2. “What a stupid fellow you are!” she remarked.
Answer: B
3. A student came to me and said, “Sir, I shall be obliged to you if you grant me three days’ leave. I have to go to my village to see my father.”
Answer: C
Explanation:. Option ‘C’ (A student came to me and respectfully said that he would be obliged to me if I granted him three day’s leave as he had to go to his village to see his father.). Option ‘D’ अशुद्ध है क्योंकि word SIR का use किसी को respect देने केलिए किया जाता है, अतः हमें इसकेलिए RESPECTFULLY use करना चािहए ना कि CALLING ME SIR को.
4. She said to me, “What can I do for you, dear?”
Answer: D
Explanation: Option ‘D’ (She asked me affectionately what she could do for me.). जब हम word DEAR को Indirect Speech में बदलते हैं तो ये AFECTIONATELY / LOVINGLY बन जाता है.
5. Socrates said, “Virtue is its own reward.”
Answer: C
Explanation: Option ‘C’ (Socrates said that virtue is its own reward.). Reported Speech का sentence एक कहावत (proverb/saying), Indirect Speech में किसी कहावत का tense change नहीं किया जाता.
6. He said, “Let me have some tea.”
Answer: A
Explanation: Option ‘A’ (He asked me to let him have some tea.). I wish I had a car (काश कि मेरे पास एक कार होती).
कुछ उदाहरण:
a) “Let him come with us, mother; I’ll take care of him,” I said.
= I asked/requested my mother to let him come with us and promised to take
care of him.
b) “Let me go!” the boy said to the policeman.
= The boy asked/requested the policeman to let him go.
7. He said to the interviewer, “Could you please repeat the question?”
Answer: C
Explanation: Option ‘C’ (He requested the interviewer to repeat the question.). Option ‘B’ अशुद्ध है क्योंकि जब Reporting Verb REQUEST हो तो आगे हम word PLEASE को use नहीं कर सकते. Option ‘A’ और Option ‘D’ भी अशुद्ध है क्योंकि Reporting Verb जब REQUEST हो तो इसके साथ IF-CLAUSE का use नहीं किया जा सकता
8. He said. “It used to be a lovely quiet street.”
Answer: A
Explanation: Option ‘A’ (He said that it used to be a lovely quiet street.). USED TO में कोई बदलाव नहीं होता; जैसे
“I know the place well because I used to live here.” He explained.
= He explained that he knew the place well because he used to live there
9. The Prime Minister said that no one would be allowed to disturb the peace.
Answer: A
Explanation: Option ‘A’ (The Prime Minister said, “We shall not allow anyone to disturb the peace.”). Option ‘B’ अशुद्ध है क्योंकि NO ONE एक negative word है; negative words के साथ कोई negative verb use नहीं की जा सकती. एक और अन्य संभव conversion:
The Prime Minister said, “No one will be allowed to disturb the peace.”
10.“What about going for a swim?” he said, “It’s quite fine now.”
Answer: C
Explanation: Option ‘C’ (He suggested going for a swim as it was quite fine then.). ‘WHAT ABOUT’ आमतौर पर कोई सलाह (suggestion) देने के use किया जाता है; और इसको Reporting Verb SUGGEST का use करके बदला जाता है; जैसे
a) “What about flying?” she said.
= She suggested flying.
b) “I can’t come at 1.00,” said Sangeeta. “Then what about 2.00?” said Tarun.
= Sangeeta said she couldn’t come at 1.00, so Tarun suggested 2.00.
