ASSISTANT ENFORCEMENT OFFICER (AEO) JOB PROFILE

Selection to the post of Assistant Enforcement Officer (AEO) in Enforcement of Directorate is made through the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).

  • In the 6th CPC he was entitled for the Grade Pay of Rs 4,600. Now in the 7th CPC he is entitled for the Basic Pay Rs 44,900 and comes under level 7 of the following Pay Matrix Table.

In addition to the salary AEO also gets Special Allowance of 20% of the Basic Pay.

JOB NATURE OF ASSISTANT ENFORCEMENT OFFICER (AEO)

AEO post handles two acts namely PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) and FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act). Prevention of money laundering, to conduct searches of suspected persons, conveyances and premises and seize incriminating materials (including Indian and foreign currencies involved), to arrest and prosecute the person suspected to be involved in the act of money laundering, etc.

  3. Deputy Director
  4. Joint Director
  5. Addl Director
  6. Special Director

The first promotion takes 3-4 years generally, and the next further 2-3 years. The third promotion normally takes years 5-7. After that promotion are extremely slow, say 15 years. Though zones are there, but unlike CBDT and CBIC/CBEC where promotion period differs from zone to zone, the promotion period here is same for every recruit irrespective of his place/zone of posting; and is controlled by the head office which situates in Delhi.

 

ZONES

HQ – New Delhi

There are ten Zonal Offices of the Directorate at Ahmadabad, Bangalore Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai. The Zonal Offices are headed by the Deputy Directors.

The Directorate has eleven Sub Zonal Offices at Bhubaneswar, Calicut, Guwahati, Indore, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Madurai, Nagpur, Patna, Srinagar and Varanasi, which are headed by the Assistant Directors.

NOTE: We see that almost all offices either in national capital or state capitals. So, for aspirants who don’t want to go beyond tier 2 cities AEO is most suitable.

 

SUITABILITY FOR GIRLS

As the job is transferable on all India level, it’s not thought to be that good for women. Otherwise of course there is no harm in it. But girls are not transferred as frequently according to the internal policy of the department.

 

Age Limit
Age limit in the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Exam of the Staff Selection Commission for this post is 18-30 years.

    I have been selected as Assistant Enforcement Officer through SSC CGL 2013 exam.
    I have one query- I wear specatcles of power -4.5D. Will it create any issues regarding the medical fitness required for this post.
    If yes, then what measures(lasik, lenses) can i take to avoid this?
