Selection to the post of Jr Statistical Officer (JSO) is made through the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
In the 6th CPC he was entitled for the Grade Pay of Rs 4,200. Now in the 7th CPC he is entitled for the Basic Pay Rs 35,400 and comes under level 6 of the following Pay Matrix Table.

JOB NATURE OF Jr STATISTICAL OFFICER (JSO)
Two types of posting is there at this post:
1. Office Duty (Ministerial): All type of clerical work like Noting, Drafting, Dispatching of documents, etc.; and Data Entry, Analysis, Tabulation, Compiling and Editing of Data, Data Encoding etc.
2. FOD (Field Operations Division) Duty (Non-ministerial): FOD is responsible for conducting surveys in the field of Socio-Economic, Industrial Statistics, Agricultural Statistics and Prices etc. This is basically a field job. You need to visit field regularly, some times for several days continuously. When on a field work JSO is entitled for certain allowances.
PROMOTIONS FOR Jr STATISTICAL OFFICER (JSO)
- Sr Statistical Officer (Group-B Gazetted)
- Assistant Director
- Deputy Director, Joint Director and so on.
The first promotion is in 6-7 years and the next promotion takes usually 11-12 years currently.
AGE LIMIT
Age limit in the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Exam of the Staff Selection Commission for this post is 18-32 years.
